An Ode to the Essential Worker

Written by Kimball Midwest | January 13, 2021
At Kimball Midwest, we know who we are, and we know who we take care of.

Essential workers are the blood that pumps through our veins. They are the air we breathe.

We are nowhere without them.

Our distribution centers – all four of them – have been staffed throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. Our workers show up, pick items off the shelf, pack boxes and assortments and get them on the truck so you can keep working.

Let’s take a moment to celebrate that contribution, because it’s not a small one.

The essential worker was taken for granted before the COVID-19 pandemic. Rarely did the average Joe think about the person in the warehouse picking items off shelves. Rarely did they ponder how it was packed in a box or put on a truck. But we did.

Little did they consider the truck driving across the country. Whether the brakes would work, the door would open, the parts would get delivered. But we did.

Little did they consider the men and women who walk in and out of manufacturing plants each day that harvest the raw materials that make the bolts that hold the truck together. But we did.

We know the essential worker is the one who walks in and does the job day in and day out in the face of what makes others stay at home.

The put on their pants one leg at a time, don their masks and get to work.

What makes them essential is what we take for granted every day. They do the work that allows everyone else to do theirs. The work that puts food on the table.

They take care of our loved ones, whether they are on the road, at home, in health care facilities, grocery stores or distribution centers. And they rely on sales reps to make sure they stay stocked with the goods to provide the services you need.

The essential workers are the farmers who put food on your table, who would be nowhere without their tractors and machines that must be kept in running order. They rely on sales reps to supply their needed parts, the distribution center workers to make sure their orders are filled correctly, and the manufacturing plants to produce those parts.

The essential workers are everything to America, and they are everything to us. And we owe them a debt of gratitude.

So, to the essential workers on our team, and those that work all over the United States, we at Kimball Midwest say: Thank you!

And to those of you who want us to help you keep going, let us help you !
