Today, we’re focusing on one chemical category that’s so important in many shops: brake cleaners.
Of course, brake cleaners are designed to flush away brake fluid, grease and more from brake components, but they usually can do so much more. Even shops not dealing with brakes often find use for a quality brake cleaner as an effective all-purpose degreaser to clean other metal parts.
It’s OK to do this with most formulas because it doesn’t go against the labeling, but be sure to check your product’s label to ensure your planned use is appropriate.
Non-chlorinated brake cleaners tend to dominate the market today, but some applications need more aggressive degreasing and/or non-flammability, so chlorinated brake cleaners still are available.
Here are two of our top brake cleaner options:
This high-power delivery system provides extra cleaning action to break up and flush away contaminants, outperforming ordinary delivery systems. The formula works instantly to remove brake fluid, grease, oil and more.
The non-chlorinated formula can outperform conventional chlorinated brake cleaning solvents, and it dries quickly, leaving no residue of its own to inhibit braking performance.
It is flammable, however, so do not use on hot surfaces or around flames or other combustion sources or sparks. It’s also not for use on rubber or plastic brake parts.
Brake Power Brake Parts Cleaner
This fast, powerful formula degreases instantly to remove brake fluid, grease, oil and other contaminants from brake parts. The non-chlorinated formula outperforms conventional chlorinated brake cleaning solvents.
It also dries quickly and leaves no residue to inhibit braking performance. It’s also flammable.
