Nothing hurts more for a shop owner than missing workers due to injuries.
You try hard to keep your staff safe. Signs, cleanliness and storage play an integral role in making sure your staff stays on the job, but injuries do happen.

And some of the most common injuries have always been slips, trips and falls.
The National Safety Council provided some facts about slips, trips and falls, and why they are the third most common workplace injuries.
  • Almost 22 people in 1,000 will miss at least one day of work due to a slip, trip or fall at work.
  • The most common number of days missed due to injuries from slips, trips or falls is 14.
  • Those who are most at risk are people 55 and older.
  • The most common industries for injuries from slips, trips or falls are transportation, warehousing and agriculture.
  • Sprains, strains and tears are the most common injuries from slips, trips or falls.
Tripping over a simple cord that should have been put away – or covered – can cost an entire shop two weeks of downtime if it happens to the wrong person.

But it’s not just cords that can cost you. Ladders are a big culprit, too. We have a blog on ladder safety you can check out, too.

According to the National Safety Council, slips, trips and falls include the following events:
  • Slips and trips without falling: Injuries occurring when a worker catches him/herself from falling due to slip or trip.
  • Falling on the same level: Including tripping, slipping, falling while sitting, and falling onto or against object on the same level.
  • Falling to a lower level: Including falling from a collapsing structure, falling through surfaces, and falling from ladders, roofs, scaffolding or other structures.
  • Jumping to a lower level: Different from falls because they are controlled and voluntary.
While many of the above injuries can be prevented, sometimes unfortunate things just happen.

At Kimball Midwest, we can help you keep some of these from happening with proper signage to make sure workers remember there’s a step, or traction tape for areas that can be wet at times. You also want to make sure you clean up any spills in a timely manner to avoid any unnecessary injury.

We can help you make sure you store your hoses and cords appropriately, or if they must run across a floor, we can help you cover them to avoid injuries. If we don’t have exactly what you are looking for in one of our warehouses, our non-stock department can help you, too, with ladders and safety harnesses.

So, if you want to make sure your workers stay on the job and safety is a top priority, contact your rep and ask them what we have to offer. If you don’t have a rep, you can click here to Find a Rep.
